Day 8 - 9

Day 8

Depart Kinsale 0758 arrive Glandore 1330 - 33 miles

0903 abeam Old Head of Kinsale

Still sunny but wind dead ahead on the layline so heading further south on starboard tack in the hope of wind veering slightly south to allow a tack back taking us into Glandore.

Had a great sail across Clonakilty Bay and then furled jib to motor around Galley head - wind on the nose again! Should be able to free off and sail after Galley head.

Navionics course taking us inside Doolic rock - phew that was interesting!

Another great sail across Glandore bay and furled jib as we entered the harbour bay. Arrived to a fleet of Dragons doing multiple short races; good spectator sport.

We picked up one of the visitor mooring bouys and then Wendy made a delicious brunch.

After brunch we launched the dinghy and fitted the new electric outboard engine - what a great job that is.

Met the support team for a late lunch / early dinner in Hayes pub - a super meal in great company with a bit of sunshine to cheer everyone up.

Crew sat on after the others left to go back to Baltimore, and had a few drinks before going back out to the boat before sunset.

Day 9

Depart Glandore 0824 arrive Castletownsend 0940 - 6.5 miles

Exited Glandoe harbour bay and into an easterly breeze - the first time the wind has been behind us since leaving Bangor!

0930 entered Castle Haven bay.

Anchored off Castletownsend village and had a lovely cooked breakfast. Started to rain, but looking brighter to the north.

Depart Castletownsend 1115 arrive Baltimore 1245 - 12.5 miles

1223 abeam Kedge Island and Mike spotted some dolphins.

The brightness Mike spotted was a false dawn as the rain became a steady drizzle the soaks everything (I believe it’s known as a “soft” day in County Cork - it maybe it has to be warm rain for that and it definitely wasn’t warm today).

1240 abeam Beacon Point.

Dropped mainsail and motored up to the moorings; Diarmuid (Atlantic Boating) had mooring number 38 ready for us. I’m not too happy with how we are tied up as boat swinging a lot in the wind; will sort that when the rain stops!

Now heading ashore to meet the support crew who are staying in Baltimore this week.
