Day 23

Updated: Jul 30

Depart Inishbofin 0900 arrive Blacksod Quay 1600 - 38 miles

0940 motoring through the gap between Inishbofin and Davillaun

A bit of wind filled in and we unfurled the jib; unfortunately it only lasted for 20 minutes and then died.

1040 abeam Inishturk, 1215 abeam Bills Rocks

Rain started as Gavin went off watch for a rest - good timing! His excuse was he had to do anchor watch last night.

1350 abeam Achill Head - confused sea off the head, but once we rounded and bore off towards Blacksod bay it quickly calmed and we unfurled the jib for a nice motor sail for the final few hours, and the sun made a brief appearance to help dry us out.

Just as we arrived into Blacksod Quay the heavens opened and we got another soaking as we dropped anchor.

A very friendly fisherman came over to us as he returned to his mooring and asked if we needed any provisions (there is no shop at Blacksod Quay), and he took our shopping list with a promise to deliver them back the following morning at 5am.

When the rain stopped we went ashore to Una’s pub and renewed our pool match. After hearing our story the bartender Melissa very kindly made a donation and shared the story on their social media.

After we were suitably refreshed we went back onboard for the spaghetti bolognese dinner and an early night in preparation for a 5am start tomorrow.

We have now raised over £6,000, well in excess of my initial goal. However there are still some hard miles to cover and I want to the remaining time to try and increase that to £8,000 (4 times my initial goal).

Thank you to everyone who has donated and helped me so far; let’s make the final week a special one and make a difference for NIPANC!
